Multidisciplinary Project II / TASK 02
Assignment Brief
For Assignment 2: Design Rationale, I further developed my approved concept from Phase 1 into a well-defined phygital design proposal. This phase focused on translating conceptual ideas into an interactive and immersive experience by integrating spatial design with digital and interactive media. Through visual exploration, user journey mapping, and experiential storytelling, I refined the design to respond to user needs, context, and purpose. The outcome was a cohesive design rationale supported by sketches, diagrams, and visual simulations that communicate the project’s narrative, interaction, and multidisciplinary thinking.

In this assignment, I focused on refining my design rationale by polishing and finalizing my initial idea. Throughout the process, I changed and developed my concept many times as I continued to explore and test different design directions. This phase was challenging, especially when designing the coral installation and spatial layout. I struggled to visualize how the installation would work within the space and went through multiple references, sketches, and iterations, many of which did not turn out as expected.
Designing the coral-inspired installation was particularly frustrating, as I found it difficult to balance inspiration from natural coral forms with a clean and minimal spatial design. However, after conducting more research and experimenting further, I was able to develop a more organized structure. By using repeating elements and simplifying the overall space, the final version became more cohesive and coral-inspired than my earlier attempts. Looking back, although the process was stressful, it helped me better understand iterative design and the importance of research, refinement, and persistence in developing a stronger final outcome.
