Due Day : 3 January 2025

Assignment Brief

Assignment Final Outcome

Story Line

The story begins with Habitat 67, showing selected units and their daily lives within the complex. Rooms light up one by one. Afterward, one of the children (represented by a line) walks through the units, gathering everyone and announcing that they should meet in a specific room at night .

As the time comes, all the people gather in one unit (also represented by a line). Slowly, the lights in the other units turn off, leaving only the gathering room illuminated. The scene then transitions to show everyone together in the unit, sitting beside two elderly individuals who are preparing to share their stories.

Suddenly, the scene ends and fades into Expo 67, showcasing the community and some memorable events from the past in a first-person perspective. This highlights the community's connection and shared history. The story gradually transitions to show the process of Habitat 67’s construction and a vision for its future.

Finally, the narrative comes full circle, returning to Habitat 67, but this time reflecting on its past.

Assignment Reflection

In this final assignment, the task of creating the final product based on the ideas refined in Assignments 1 and 2 proved to be a challenging yet rewarding experience. I realized how difficult it is to turn an idea into reality, as ideas often feel limitless, but practical constraints can make certain elements either impossible or very difficult to achieve. This process taught me important lessons about adaptability and problem-solving, especially when working within the limitations of tools, time, and resources.

At the beginning of the assignment, I struggled to figure out where to start. After much deliberation, I decided to focus on the animation for the opening sequence. I began by drawing animations and compiling them in CapCut, as my initial plan was to finish the video before moving into HeavyM for projection mapping. The drawing process itself was not particularly challenging, but I soon encountered difficulties when deciding how to depict the children walking from room to room to connect all the units together. After trying out a few approaches, I finally settled on using a line to represent the connection between rooms, which expanded visually from one unit to another. This compromise allowed me to move forward without overcomplicating the process.

Once I had completed this stage, I felt that the project still lacked excitement. I decided to include some pattern and motion videos within the projection to make it more engaging and dynamic. However, this addition introduced new challenges, especially in the video editing stage. As someone who is not particularly skilled in video editing, I spent a lot of time researching methods to achieve the desired effects. This trial-and-error process was both challenging and frustrating, as many attempts did not yield the results I wanted. Eventually, I found alternative approaches to achieve similar effects, which required patience and creativity.

The biggest challenge of all was working with HeavyM for projection mapping. Since I was unfamiliar with the software, I often felt lost and confused about what to do next. I spent significant time experimenting with the tools, watching tutorials, and learning through practice. Despite these difficulties, I gradually became more comfortable with the software and managed to achieve the outcome I had envisioned.

Even though I faced numerous challenges throughout this process, I was finally able to complete the project, albeit with some modifications to the original proposal from Assignments 1 and 2. This assignment was an excellent opportunity to polish my problem-solving, critical thinking, and creative skills. It also pushed me to think on my feet and find solutions to unexpected problems.

In conclusion, this assignment provided me with a unique learning experience. It taught me how to bridge the gap between concept and execution, adapt to limitations, and persevere through technical and creative challenges. By the end of the project, I not only created a product I was proud of but also gained new skills and insights that I can apply to future projects. Overall, this journey was both enriching and transformative, helping me grow as a designer and problem solver.
